A few days late

It seems that a few flowers were feeling shy and did not want to appear in time for GBBD. But, given a little warmth and a little sunshine they have now been coaxed out of their bashful buds. Small, but all the more wonderful because of it - concentrated beauty.

This time just under two years ago, I was writing about sowing seeds far too early.

This time just under a year ago, I was writing about sowing seeds far too early. Interesting to see that the dwarf narcissi were out this time last year. They're several weeks behind this year.

This year, I haven't sown any seeds yet! It may take time, but I do eventually learn from my mistakes. But the shining sun is making my fingers itch to go and sow some...

Well, it was sunny for a few minutes! Back to the kitchen then... Anyway, you should be working, not looking at blogs!

Beautiful. some of them look like orchids. Are they?

Hi Blossom, thank you for your comment.
The orchid-looking ones are dwarf irises. The pale ones are Katharine Hodgekin, the others I can't remember.

Those little irises are exquisite. Want want want! I did have some but they never reappeared after I planted them. (There is a whole special enclosure up in plant heaven where my unfortunate victims congregate and compare notes...)

Beautiful mauves and purples. And the yellow crocuses. Yes, spring is on its way. But everything is late here, too. Last year on 17 Feb the apricot buds were about to burst into blossom. I've just looked at them today and there is no sign ... just the same as they've been all winter.

Ohhhhhhh, you've got Irises in flower. Lucky you!

Spring is late this year, thanks to a cold winter which is not over yet.

BTW I'm not into early sowing anymore either. It simply doesn't work for me.

Oh, those beautiful golden crocuses! I don't think there's a colour that says spring better. All your blooms are beautiful.

Lovely flowers, especially the Irises which never do well for me.
Perhaps looking at past posts is a kind of teaching aid. You've taken three years to stop sowing early! Just two more years for me and I should have learned my lesson (lol)

Hi Happy, you and somebeans are a riot. :-) The iris are wonderful, thanks for the ID for Katherine, I have seen her in the catalog but your photos are much more persuasive in selling her charms! She is going on the list for fall planting.

I just love those little bulbous Irises. Each one is like a tiny jewelbox of colors and shapes. Yours are all so beautiful. That thwacking noise you hear is me kicking myself for not planting any last fall.
