Taken by my father at Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust on Wednesday. No need for tinsel and fairy lights when nature supplies the decorations.

lovely, lovely, lovely, You know I have only ever seen them out of the corner of my eye - they flash past so quickly, and it is always such a joy. (To glimpse them that is - not that they flash past so quickly) K
Dad was lucky - the kingfisher was hanging around, fishing and sitting for over 2 hours! The problem was that it was so stunning that he kept forgetting to take photos and just watched it instead.
Oh I do love kingfishers. I once had one fly in-between myself and a colleague when we were river surveying in Wales. It flew round the corner and didn't have time to evade us - it must have been just a foot away when it flew by. Absolutely magical.
A beautiful Kingfisher really rivalling all the man made decorations. We have the "Cookaburra" Kingfisher, which is rather a big, splendid bird, not as colourful. I have seen a tiny one, azure blue.

What gorious colours. I wish that I had a winter coat like that. Sadly I have never caught a glimpse of a kingfisher but live in hope.
They are beautiful and when I first saw one I was surprised how small they were. A very special bird!
OH ! He is BEAUTIFUL! a feathered jewel!
