Gone bananas

There are lambs...
And there are bananas...
But, there are also lambananas.

Conceived as part of the Liverpool Capital of Culture 2008, there are 125 lambananas. And seeing as it is now 1/3 of the way through 2009, this post is rather behind the times. We had encountered one in Ness Gardens last July...the superstegbanana.

But when we were there last time, just under a month ago, we discovered superstegbanana now had a friend, cwtched up* in the conservatory along with some Wollemi pines.

Meet Green Lamb

Aren't they great?
Most have been auctioned now, and can be seen in a variety of places in the north west.
Did you see any superlambananas last year?
There is a complete photocatalogue of the different lambananas on this website.

For those unlucky enough ever to have come across the wonderful word 'cwtch', read this link. It's a lovely word, and one I remember fondly from my childhood :)

I am sure that Green Lamb was in Liverpool last summer with bits of ivy draped through those holes. I came across a few superlambananas last year and was sad to see them go.

We had a similar event in Bath last year, but with pigs! They raised pots of cash for Sustrans when they were auctioned off.

Hadn't come across this before but isn't it fun?

Specially like the superstegbabana.

And lambs . . . what goes wrong? How do they turn into sheep?

Anna - yes, apparently it was. A few made it as far as the Wirral, and one apparently was found on top of Moel Famau in N. wales

VP - yes - I remember seeing your photos now!

Lucy - they're great, aren't they? I wish I'd made the effort to go to Liverpool to see more.

Ha ha - these are great fun!
We were up on Moel Famau this weekend, but didn't see one - must have been in the wrong bit!

I hadn't heard "cwtched up" for years although I remember it from my childhood in Wales. I had no idea it was a Welsh word or how it was spelled. How nostalgic!

I have never seen them but think they are cute. I wonder if they make their way to Australia? Perhaps. The Wollemi pine is a rare Australian tree. It was discovered 10 years ago in a NP 200km from Sydney.
