I waxed lyrical about the magical properties of the scent of lilac at almost exactly the same time last year. This evening I caught the first scent of the year and my stomach had butterflies of delight again. Bliss.
No sign of the dreaded blight yet this year. Fingers crossed...

Dear HM .. I have quite a while yet to smell that wonderful heady fragrance .. but reading this was almost as good ! wink wink : )
Mmmm I love the smell of lilac. There used to be one on our street but the owners cut it down :( If we had more space I'd plant one. Next garden!
Hi Happy, ours are winding down now, but the scent remains on the breezes. The cool spring gave us a long bloom period, well over a month, unheard of in these parts.
Enjoy yours for even longer, I hope. :-)
Frances
My lone planting is already a memory, but it did smell lovely. Enjoy it's sweetness. gail
Your post is very evocative of that wonderful fragrance. Happy blogging!
I've got the dwarf S. palibiniana which hasn't opened yet. Something to look forward too!
I do agree that Lilac has a lovely fragrance.
I haven't got a lilac but, even as I type I can smell the wisteria outside my window ......which is just as gorgeous I think!
Au contraire, HM, you are most elegant when recalling the luscious scent of lilacs. Here, the jasmine is blooming and wrapping the garden in its scent.
