Hi,

They look like Hattifatteners off the Moomins!

What on earth?!

You do take photographs of extraordinary things!

I suppose they are better off this way as long as the water doesn't get in.

I'm glad I don't have to do this to my garden!

Now I feel guilty. If I had done that to mine two winters ago it might still be alive!

Too good a photo opportunity to miss!

Where are they?

Happy New Year to you and @smallcasserole (forgot to wish him it on Twitter just now - silly me)

WV says hgrat - hope they're not hidden under all that fleece!

I've got my date palm wrapped up like that outside my front bay window. I keep seeing it out of the corner of my eye and think there is a man standing there! A bit of snow and there will be a 'man' standing there..

Sinister lot, aren't they? I love the one that's bowing.

This is troubling though. If the price of having exotics in summer is to tie them up in unsightly wrappings, are such plants worth having? It depends, I suppose, on how much you value your garden as a whole, in winter as well as how much you value the plants themselves.

Strange and funny.

Liz - there seems to be a bit of a Moomin resurgence at the moment; several people on Twitter have put up photos of their moomin mugs etc. I had forgotten about the Hattifatteners; I think I was slightly worried by them as a child.

Esther - they were rather eye-catching when we came across them, hence the photo.

EG - we don't bother with our couple of small ones. We did have 3 but one copped it last year. we'll see if the other two turn their toes up this spring.

VP - they're at Ness Gardens. I took the photo at the weekend, after yet another visit. It's somewhere that doesn't require very much effort to get to if the weather is a bit rubbish.

Arabella - scary!

Nigel - I couldn't be doing with the faff, to be honest.

Ellada - thanks for visiting!

Just brilliant, Happy! Ah... Ness Gardens - that one's already on my visit wish list :-)

Wishing you a great weekend :-D

Disturbingly phallic, but what a wonderful photo opportunity!
