I'm quite puzzled - what are we looking at here ? It is an extreme macro ? I googled lichens but I couldn't identify this. Nice image though.

Nothing that exciting, I'm afraid - it's just some lichen centre of photo) growing on the branch of a monkey puzzle tree.

Unexpected! I tend to assume that lichen only grows on cold hard surfaces. I like the way the delicacy of the lichen contrasts with the spikiness of the host.
