Ooooh might I have finally found a name for the horrible stuff growing in the cuttings at the bottom of my coldframe when I opened it in March after the hidiously cold winter?! I had never seen it before xx

I find it a beautiful plant (... eye of the beholder, I guess).

Kathryn - yes, that's the stuff.

james - I agree. And it has a very interesting life cycle.

Lovely photo...your close up photo makes it look like tiny green hands emerging from the soil. Beautiful green!

Ooh! Interesting, but I need some words: What does it do? What do you do with it? Presumably it is beneficial to the liver - or is it liver shaped. Did you plant it or did it arrive....? Do tell all!

Fascinating, if worthy of a Sci Fi film.

A beautiful liverwort, I love the little miniature palm tree looking sprouts. I found a different species of liverwort here a few weeks ago during a walk along one of our creeks. Such fascinating plants.

Thanks for the comments. I might do a post on the life cycle of liverworts and mosses as they are so interesting.
