Harvest

I started this blog because I got an allotment, and I wanted to journal progress on it. We said goodbye to the allotment not long after child was born - life got too busy and we didn't have the time to keep it in shape and to enjoy it. I've fitfully grown some fruit and veg in the garden since then, most often eater by snails. However, this year, as it's been so dry, and as I get a little time, we've managed a pretty good year.

I say, pretty good, but it's just a handful here and there - a serving occasionally. Listed out, though, it looks quite impressive:

  • pea shoots
  • lettuce leaves
  • apples
  • strawberries
  • tomatoes
  • four pumpkins
  • small cucumbers
  • a few dwarf beans (dwarfed by the pumpkin growth)
  • sweetcorn.
Far from self-sufficient, but satisfying nonetheless.

Time

It's nearly 19 years since my first blog post. Things have been somewhat sporadic since 2012, though. Also, blogs aren't quite the thing that they once were. Times have changed, and social media has moved on. I no longer post on the hellsite of Twitter, but have moved to the relative sanity of BlueSky. I've completed a Doctorate in Education. I mention this not because I want to show off but because for seven years it was an outlet for writing. Since I finished it a couple of years ago, I've really missed writing. I don't have the imagination or tenacity to write a book, so it's a return to the blog.

I don't have much to say in this blog post, though, as it's just a little play to see if it still works and to blow the dust off it.
