I immediately recognised your post title but I couldn't think from where until Simon helpfully gave the answer. Just had to rush over to Youtube to listen. 1982 - the 80s weren't all bad.
Ryan, the only mice I seem to come across are cold, hard and dead, unfortunately.
Arabella, I find cat's whiskers quite firm and springy but it is nice when a cat winds around your bare legs (except for the fact that they're trying to trip you up to kill you and nibble your kidneys, obviously).
Skimble and Jess perform the same mouse service for us too ;)
Durham wasn't quite so exciting as a PhD for me - I started out as an Executive Officer at the Department for National Savings. I'm sure you remember that monstrosity in the middle of the city! I was in charge of a letter writing team answering questions scintilating questions such as 'How is RPI calculated?' and 'I think I lost my savings certificates whilst parachuting over Italy during WWII can you help me find them?'. After 6 months of that they decided I'd be better employed starting to computerise the entire office - it's amazing how the civil service try to fit square pegs into round holes!
I bought a house in Pity Me BTW, hence the 2 mile walk to get to work...
The only thing I can think of is the feel of Lamb's Ears (Stachys byzantina). I have a thing about touching plants, and in my garden they have to feel good as well as look good. I also recognize the title. Great song, great band, great album.

Cat's whiskers?

I used to sing that and 'Golden Brown' by The Stranglers on the way to the office when I started my first job in Durham.
It was a 2 mile walk...
Don't forget Bill occasionally brings us a very lively mouse to chase around...

I love the name Pity Me. What a great place to live.

So many plants are tactile in their own way. The phot looks great grass against the sky.
XTC!!!! Brilliant!!!
Haha, I'm watching me, myself and Irene - have you ever seen it? It has 'I'd like that' on it. Fantastic.
