Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day March 2010

I've missed the last couple of months of GBBD. January went past without being recorded as there was snow and little else; February because we were on holiday but still there was nothing to record. Looking back to last year's garden photos, both miniature and large daffodils were fully out, Anemone blanda were showing their smiling faces to the world, and the hellebores were at their peak (see my blog title for a photo taken on 15th March last year). My acers were about to break bud.
Not so this year. The cold has put us back a couple of weeks - no daffs are showing any colour yet, and whilst the earlier hellebores are out, some of the slightly later ones have yet to open.

For links to many more March flower displays, visit Carol at May Dreams Gardens - thanks for hosting GBBD, Carol. It's interesting to see that over in Indiana, Carol has a similar range of flowers out as in Cheshire, UK.

Lovely, especially the purple-veined crocuses. Everything is very late here too - almond and apricot blossom at least two weeks late. It will all catch up though, I suppose.

Happy Bloom Day, Happy! Yes, everything behind here too. Our daffs are just breaking through the ground. Love the crocus shots… I have Pickwick too but don’t know what happened to it this year as the bulbs lifted out of the ground.

Very jealous of your hellebores, mine are still asleep! Love that iris too… plan to add some for next year. Wonderful photos :-D

Your flower range is similar to Chippenham's too.

I must buy some 'Pickwick' in the autumn bearing in mind our first married abode was actually in Pickwick.

Your photos are wonderful, so are the blooms. I planted Iris reticulata for the first time in almost 20 years; I can't wait until it blooms. They are so cute.

The miniature iris made my heart lurch. I like them enorously but have not seen any for a long time.

I think it's a zilch year for crocuses where I live. The few there are are boring and straggly. I thought daffodils were going to tip in with low points as well until a couple of days ago when the tiny ones started to come out and the buds of the bigger ones began to plump up.

Plants may be struggling with spring but the birds are noisy.

What gorgeous captures of your beautiful blooms. My gardens in North Florida are running a couple of weeks behind last year as well.

Chaiselongue - I'm sure it will all catch up and spring proper will be with us in a 'whoosh'.

Shirl - thank you. I do like Pickwick. For some reason it makes me feel like a snall child. It's the stripes.

VP - Pickwick is a must then! I love your range of crocuses.

MMD - they are gorgeous, aren't they? Miniature delicacies.

Lucy - shame about the crocuses. There's always next year. It sounds like your daffies are doing well though.

Darla - thank you for visiting.

I've commented on a few blogs that lathough there are photos of crocuses all over the gardening blogosphere at the moment, I really can't get enough of seeing them. They're such a fleeting delight, a sign of better things to come and they never fail to put a huge smile on my face.

Winter has outstayed his welcome in my garden...48 F (9C) and too chilly for a mid spring day! It would help if the sun came out! Enough grousing! Your hellbore, iris and crocus are wonderful to see....so, beautifully photographed. Happy GBBD! gail

Great photos HM. I hope that we are well and truly done with the frosts for this winter. I have a few daffs just opening but can only see slivers of colour on my irises :)

lovely photos, - I agree about not getting tired of crocus. I hope my Hellebores grow up to be just like yours!

Oh my goodness your hellebores are to die for!! What a photo [I have the touch of death when it comes to them but I love them so].

There are some gorgeous colours in your garden at the moment. I particularly like the iris. I don't have any in my own garden, but it's a flower I love as they remind me of my grandma. I will have to see about getting some this year.

Lovely cheery photos, HM :-D
Everything is late here as well - snowdrops and crocuses out and not much else yet - but at least there are lots of buds and it is starting to look like spring at last.

Liz - absolutely :)

Noel - thank you , and thank you for visiting my blog.

Gail - Happy GBBD, I hope the weather is warming up for you slightly; we've had a couple of warm days now. However I can guarantee frost and snow on Monday as that is when they turn the heating off for the summer at work!

Anna - it's like unwrapping a present, waiting for the colour to show on a spring flower, isn't it?

Claire - thank you. I'm sure they will and you'll have a wonderful display off them.

Carrie - Thank you. My hellebores seem to thrive on neglect and just love the damp shady area they're in. The moss likes it too :(

Jo - aren't flwers wonderful, the way they evoke memories? You must get some irises.

Juliet - yes, late, but as you say there are now lots of signs of life. It's such ann exciting time of year :)
